When four estranged brothers return home to say their last goodbye to their dying mother, Grace, hidden motivations reveal themselves. The family's already tenuous bonds are tested when secrets from Grace's past resurface, causing a restless night to go terribly awry as the brothers are thrust into a fight for their own survival.

A Kansas City waitress with dreams of becoming a nurse becomes delusional after seeing her no-good car salesman husband murdered. Becoming delusional from shock, she becomes convinced that she is the former fiancée of her soap opera idol. What she also believes is that the soap opera is real and goes to LA to find the hospital where he works as a cardiologist. Meanwhile, her husband's murderers are searching for the drugs stolen by her husband and, as luck would have it, they are stored in the trunk of the car she drove off in. Freeman, an aging hit man planning his retirement after this job, also becomes delusional about the woman he is tracking.

This movie follows the fortunes of Charles (Hugh Grant) and his friends as they wonder if they will ever find true love and marry. Charles thinks he's found "Miss Right" in Carrie (Andie MacDowell), an American. This British subtle comedy revolves around Charles, his friends, and the four weddings and one funeral which they attend.

A troubled, young history professor tries to escape his past by taking a job at a new university, where he struggles with an entrenched and equally-troubled department chair, rampant student apathy, and new relationships that complicate and challenge his worldview.
